WCHS Students Introduced to Local Career & Training Opportunities during Waco Works

Ninety-One 10th-12th graders from Washington County High School (WCHS) participated in Waco Works at Oconee Fall Line Technical College (OFTC) in Sandersville, GA, an event geared toward exposing and informing high school students of local career and skills-training opportunities in Washington County, Tuesday, November 5.

Waco Works was sponsored by the Washington County Chamber of Commerce who received an EMC Electric Foundation Grant which allowed them to coordinate the creation of Waco Works with OFTC, Washington County High School and several key industries within Washington County. 

This is the third Waco Works event sponsored by the chamber and coordinated with OFTC.

Nominations are now being accepted for five vacant board of director positions for the Washington County Chamber of Commerce.  The completed nomination form must be submitted to the chamber by 5:00 pm, Friday, November 8, 2019. 
 
The nominating committee will review all nominations and present a recommendation to the Washington County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.

​Dedicated to providing plant lovers of all ages a serene setting for observing and learning about horticulture, nature and heritage, Lockerly Arboretum aspires to become a nationally accredited arboretum while preserving and protecting their antebellum crown jewel, Rose Hill, located in Milledgeville, GA.

New Member: Georgia Hi-Lo Trail

As one of our newest Members, Georgia Hi-Lo Trail is brand new, starting in April 2019, even though the idea has been in the works for 4 years!

They are building America’s longest paved multi-use trail from Athens to Savannah, Ga (through Sandersville) to empower rural people.

As they build this trail, they offer community programs to empower the next generation with the skills they need.

​Developing this trail will create an economic engine and community gathering place that the entire community can enjoy and benefit from (economically and physically) for generations to come!

Our May 2019 Business After Hours was held right here at the Chamber of Commerce! 

Attendees enjoyed delicious food provided by Loose Sugar Bakery and had the privilege of viewing the grand opening of the Fall Line Artist Guild's 2019 Student Art Show.

New Member: James' Barber Shop

​One of our newest Members, James' Barber Shop, all began in 1961 when the owner began working as an apprentice. He worked in two shops located in Tennille, GA for other proprietors before opening his own shop in Sandersville, GA in 1973.

James' Barber Shop specializes in basic haircuts, flat tops, and beard and mustache trims!
​
Their favorite part of working in Washington County is talking to long-time customers and friends, and making new ones along the way. They have enjoyed serving Washington County and have had the privilege of giving many people in the community their very first haircut!
