Deepstep was first settled in 1790 and named for a Native American legend. It is one of the oldest cities in the U.S. and shares a tradition of strong community ties. Most families have been there for generations, thriving off of the Kaolin industry. Even earning Deepstep the title "The Heart of Kaolin." |
Deepstep incorporated in 1900, electing their first mayor and counciland later erecting the present town hall and public library in 1903.
-1966: Deepstep installed a city water system
-1972: estabished a volunteer fire department
-1982: built the community library in
-2002 and 2004: Earned Cleanest Community Awards
